Beet Nourishment Smoothie

Beets are one of my favorite root vegetables for colder months – they support the immune system, purify the blood from toxins and are rich in fiber, potassium, vitamin B and folate.

We, as women, require more of those minerals in general, but males can also benefit from eating more beats as well because of their high Manganese content which is good for our  bones, liver, kidneys, and pancreas.

This smoothie is very easy to make and is very filling (on less calories!) and nutritious:

For the base, blend bunch of greens of your choice (kale, arugula and chard work best!) with one and 1/2 medium frozen bananas (ripe), one tablespoon of chia seeds (ideally soaked overnight/ I simply fill a small jar with chia seeds, add water to the top and leave it in my fridge so that I can have it all ready), one tablespoon of cacao, two medium medjol dates, a pinch of nutmeg and a piece of ginger (warming and speeding the digestive fire) and a glass of water/coconut water/almond/soy milk.


I usually use  just water because I like to squeeze lime juice and add it to the smoothie instead of vegan milks which depending on the type of smoothie can dilute the taste. Juxt experiment and see what you like best! =)

If you like it sweeter, add a dropful of stevia (a natural sweetener) and for more protein, you can blend it with a plant-based protein powder of your choice. This one works best: Vega Chocolate

For toppings, I like raw pumpkin seeds and a tablespoon of maca powder (a superfood rich in vitamin B vitamins, C, and E, credited for balancing the hormones and boosting the athletic performance.)
